Bengaluru: The long-awaited Freshers’ Day arrived with a big bang. There was festive fervour all over the college. The college was tastefully decorated on the occasion. The college auditorium was abuzz with freshers’ chitchat. Needless to say, the excitement was palpable in the air.
Freshers’ Day is the event generally conducted by the seniors to show their affection and hospitality towards juniors. The main motto of the programme is to strengthen the bond with juniors, make them acquainted with the faculty and the college. It is not a function but an opportunity to interact.
The freshers were asked to be dressed in ethnic wear. They were bubbling with joy as they waited for the programmes to begin. The contestants were all well excited about the events.
The various performances included: dancing, singing, antakshari, mimicry, jokes, treasure hunt, chess, carrom, rangoli, poster and personality contest.
The event started with the principal’s short welcome speech to the freshers. She warmly welcomed all and motivated the students not only for the on-going competition but for the life ahead.
The principal further said, “The idea behind this party is to welcome the freshers and familiarise them with the senior students. Not only do these events help in developing harmony but also in building the leadership qualities and creativity among students.”
All the contestants had their own style and panache. They walked with confidence and had their own ways of presenting themselves. While some chose to recite a ‘shayar’, some had their own poetical lines describing themselves. There was also a rap-style intro. The contestants no doubt were all prepared to leave a firm impression on the judges. The freshers shed their inhibitions and enjoyed the party till the end.
Contestants presented dance performances, rap and stand-up comedy. The dance forms include hip-hop, belly dance, Bollywood style to free style dancing. The participants added various colours to the stage.
It was a feast to see so many talented students shining on stage. The talent round gave way to all the fighting spirit with which the competitors were totally charged.
Sudeep, a VI Semester B.Sc student says, “It helps the juniors to understand each other better and develop harmonious relationships with their seniors.”
Mr. and Ms. Fresher contest was the highlight of the event. The contestants had an introduction-cum-walk and talk round and talent round which included dance, music and dramatic performances. The contestants selected their questions through the lucky draw. They had to answer the questions on the chit they picked. This was obviously the tough part, to answer the unexpected questions, but the contestants seemed pretty confident and pulled it off smartly.
Mr. Fresher, Jigme Wangchuk’s confident personality and down-to earth nature clearly reflected through his words. His stand-up comedy in the talent round made him the favourite of the whole event.
Miss Fresher, Sindhu’s cute and confident style and her bollywood style dancing in the talent round won her the title.
Sindhu said winning the title is a dream come true for her.
Throughout the event, the auditorium was filled with pulsating ambience, flashing lights, foot-tapping music. The college management and the cultural department have successfully put up a great show.
Their endeavour chained the audience for nearly three-and-a-half hours, who thoroughly enjoyed this grand display of entertainment.
